An Open Letter to the Free Women of Second Life Gor

To the women who choose to roleplay in Gor, especially those who wish to do so as Free Women, you are welcome.

Being a Free Woman in Gor is a demanding role. It asks for restraint, discipline, and a willingness to place one’s Home Stone above personal preference. It is not meant to be easy or convenient. It is meant to be honorable. A Free Woman is a citizen first, shaped by her city and accountable to it. Pride in one’s Home Stone and community should run deep, not worn lightly or only when it is advantageous.

A Free Woman is defined not only by her freedoms, but by her boundaries. Those boundaries are what separate her from the kajira. Where a slave’s body is owned, displayed, and used at the will of another, a Free Woman’s body is her own and therefore guarded. Modesty is not submission. It is a declaration of status. The veil does not erase a woman. It distinguishes her.

In today’s SL-Gor, a contradiction has become increasingly common.

Many women who choose Free Woman roles, particularly within the higher castes, openly resent the veils and robes that come with those positions. They push to wear as little as possible while still expecting the respect owed to the role. Too often, that respect is demanded for the player rather than earned through the character. This tension erodes the meaning of caste and turns honor into costuming.

Veils and robes are not suggestions. They are not punishments. They are not aesthetic negotiations. They are requirements of station. They exist for a reason. There is dignity in being covered. There is pride in restraint. There is something deeply Gorean in knowing that one’s body is not public currency, that one’s appearance is reserved for family and household rather than the street.

It must also be said plainly that not every woman needs to be a Scribe or a Physician.

These are among the highest castes in Gor. They carry authority, responsibility, and strict expectations of conduct. Their modest dress is not symbolic. It is functional to the role. If the robes feel unbearable or the veil feels like an insult, the problem may not be Gor. It may be the caste you have chosen.

There is no shame in choosing a lower caste.

Be a cloth worker or seamstress whose hands clothe the city.
Be a potter, a weaver, a brewer, or a cook whose work sustains households.
Be a merchant’s wife who manages accounts, trade contacts, and logistics.
Be a midwife, a healer’s assistant, or a woman trusted with the care of children.
Be a landholder’s daughter who oversees fields, animals, and stores.
Be a slaver, trusted to manage property, including slaves, with discipline and restraint.

Each of these roles offers daily interaction, responsibility, and continuity. They create shared history, long memory, and relationships built through routine rather than spectacle. They are also where new roleplayers are most often taught, guided, and shaped. Training slaves, apprentices, and assistants is how a culture sustains itself. It is how Gor remains Gor.

These women form the backbone of a city. They are seen, known, and relied upon. Their worth is not measured by proximity to power or by how closely they mirror men. It is measured by what would be lost if they were gone. These roles often allow greater freedom of movement and expression while remaining fully Gorean in spirit and structure.

Gor does not ask women to chase authority or to compete with men on male terms. It asks women to be rooted, competent, and proud of the place they hold within their community. Power in Gor is not loud. It does not announce itself. It is steady, earned through trust, memory, and reliability.

Instead of asking what a role grants you, ask what it demands of you. Ask whether you can uphold it without resentment. Ask whether you can wear its symbols with pride rather than defiance.

Gor offers many paths. Choose one you can walk honestly. Choose one you can honor fully. That choice, made without apology or bitterness, is its own form of freedom.

The Cornerstone Gorean Dance Soloist Competition is a soloist dance event which honors the traditional methods of portraying Gorean Dance in Second Life through the art of emoting. This soloist exhibition uses the artistry of no sets, minimal props and the written word combined with animations to convey the tales and emotions of the dancers showcased during this event.

►RP Stands/Carts are limited to 10 prims for decorating with a limit of 2 per person/organization. These carts are free.

►Constant noisemaking animals, music vases or other ambient items are not allowed.

The Innovia Gorean Dance Soloist Competition is a soloist dance event which honors taking an innovative approach to Gorean dance in Second Life, combining the use of sets, lighting, animations, props and optional emotes to convey the tales and emotions of the dancers showcased during this event.

𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞: Journey Into Slavery

What do we mean by Journey Into Slavery? We would like to see a dance that tells us about a pivotal time in your journey in becoming a slave or, if you would rather, a story of an imagined slaves Journey into Slavery. Tell us, with the exceptional use of sets, lighting, and your body in motion, about a pivotal moment, be it happy or sad, frightening or enlightening, that is a part of a time line belonging to the life of a slave and their journey which has shaped them into the slave they are now. We want more than the typical, wanton undulations of a slave begging to be used sexually. We want a story that pulls us into the deepest, most intimate moments in a slaves life.

The selected music should be no more than six to eight (6-8) minutes long.

Dancers are permitted an opening post. There is no emote requirement or limitation.

Props and sets are allowed. Please keep sets to 150 prims or less.

All props and sets must be removed from the stage immediately after a performance.

All soloists must adhere to the En'Kara Fair rules and are subject to them.

All soloists are expected to exhibit respectful conduct with other dancers at the event.

A stage shell is provided to give you a general area of performance. You do NOT have to use the entire stage for your performance.

This dance competition is open to all slaves

Dancers are to be at the stage no less than 30 minutes before the event starts.

A. "The Scribe Summits" Group Acquisition

8:00 AM Session: Abraham announced acquiring the rights and logo to the 11-year-old "Scribe Summits" group from founder Catalina Staheli. The initial intent was to use this as a tool to promote scribe activities.
5:00 PM Session: A debate ensued regarding the utility of maintaining two groups (the current SCoG and the legacy group).
Consensus: To avoid splitting communication channels, the caste will invite active members from the legacy group to join the main group, after which the old group will likely be dissolved.

B. "The Circle" Initiative (Teletus)

- Concept: A project to teach Teletus city laws and traditions to the illiterate populace (lower castes/slaves) using oral formats like plays, poetry, and Socratic discourse.

[08:28] Kati Evans: The Circle is a proposed initiative designed to bridge the critical gap between the written Laws of Teletus and the illiterate populace. While we, the Scribes, guard the Scrolls, a law unread is a law often broken through ignorance rather than malice.

This project will establish a series of public, oral gatherings where the foundational laws and traditions of our city are taught to the lower castes. Moving beyond dry recitation, The Circle will utilize accessible formats—such as instructive plays, poetry, and Socratic discourse—to ensure comprehension among those unable to read.

At this point the backbone of the Circle is created. I have a draft for all 13 weeks of the 65 sessions and plan to start looking for people that would be willing to assist in the process discussion and planning. With the thought of starting this in the city in January or February, with it running into April. There will need to be about 8 people involved each week in the production. "The Scribe Summit" Group: Abraham Jacobson announced he was given ownership of an 11-year-old group called "The Scribe Summit." The scribes discussed its utility.
