Scribe Caste of Gor Meeting - 10/29/25 8 AM SLT

📜 Scribes' Meeting Summary: Scribe's Tower - Imperial Ar

This meeting, hosted by Abraham Jacobson, covered a mix of professional updates, a historical review of the Physicians Caste of Gor (PCOG), and a discussion about the future of the Enkara Fair.

Key Personnel Updates

  • Dahlia Black has become the Head of Caste (HOC) for the Scribes in Imperial Ar.

  • Bea Lael has not yet set up her Office as a Merchant Magistrate in Besnit but plans to do so within the next month.

  • AnaBelle is still searching for a city with sufficient roleplayers (RPers) and was invited by Dahlia Black to consider a stay in Imperial Ar to get a feel for the city and the Scribes' caste there.

Guest Introductions

The meeting had two notable guests:

  • Nuada Blatonn, the 1st Physician of Imperial Ar, who was interested in the Scribes' work and possibly news about his former teacher, Kailla. Nuada had to depart early.

  • Vincent Dream, a Taurentian of Imperial Ar, who attended to "keep an eye on things." Vincent also had to depart early.

Historical Review of PCOG and Scribe Groups

Abraham Jacobson reviewed the history and evolution of the Physicians Caste of Gor (PCOG), drawing parallels to the Scribes' group:

  • The Early State: Initially, PCOG lacked formal schools, teaching, mentoring, or information sharing. Knowledge was territorial, and virtually anyone could claim the tag. The early Scribe groups similarly lacked training and posted information.

  • The Group's Founding: The current Scribes group began with five people after Abraham was asked to start it. It was founded to fill the void left by the Gor campus and the departure of key educators like Janette and Victoria (Abraham's mother).

  • The Key to Growth: The group's success, particularly gaining 40 new members at the last Enkara Fair, was attributed to offering teaching and providing a way for Scribes in remote places to meet others.

  • What Worked: Setting up a mentoring program and creating the Gorean Knowledge Physicians Test (designed as an incentive to read the books) were seen as positive steps. The development of a skills set to record RPs and experience levels was also highlighted.

  • What Went Wrong: An early attempt to implement a Council of 12 Elders turned into a "nightmare." The Elders' perceived arrogance and attempts to dictate caste organization to sim owners led to threats of a ban, and the council was dissolved. Abraham noted this history as a lesson on the need to work carefully with cities.

  • External Criticism: The group has been attacked in forums, with untruths about its purpose. Abraham reaffirmed that the group's goal is to assist, not to be an "over all entity" over all Physicians/Scribes, though many sims now request their people follow the group's standards.

Discussion on the Enkara Fair (2026)

  • KAR raised a concern that the Enkara Fair for 2026 might be in jeopardy as it was "up in the air" and it was unclear if the original sim or organizer (Feather/Flower) was available.

  • Trygg Tyran provided good news: the Ubara of Turmus (a former co-sponsor) assured him the sponsoring group was planning to meet soon.

  • Dahlia Black offered that she and her companion, Hector, would be heavy monetary contributors, specifically for sim rentals, if needed to ensure the Fair continues.

  • Abraham mentioned being attacked in chat last year and accused of "taking over" the Enkara. The attendees offered strong words of support, urging him to ignore the criticism and continue his work.

Would you like me to focus on a specific topic from this summary, such as the Gorean Knowledge Physicians Test or the plans for the Enkara Fair

Log:

[08:04] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Are there any changes about with this group

[08:04] Armand Wayfarer raises hand.

[08:04] AnaBelle (anabellemasons): Thank you

[08:05] AnaBelle (anabellemasons): Tal all

[08:05] Bea Lael (lifepath) smiled, "Oh thank you..... Greeetings everyone." she hurry to sit

[08:06] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin) gave a most gracious and polite dip of her chin as she saw Trygg enter the tower as well.

"Always a joy to see you Sir Trygg."

She would then give her gracious dip of her chin to the newcomers entering.

"Greetings to you dear Ladies, it's quite an honor to have you with us this morning."

Now lending to silence as Abraham commenced the start of the meeting, lifting her wax and wooden tablet, with her stylus ready to go to transcribe all to be said.

[08:07] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Oh Lady black has become the HOC of caste for this city

[08:07] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): So two of you have moved up the ladder

[08:08] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Not sure if that is a promotion or punishment

[08:08] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): smiles

[08:08] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): AnaBelle where are you working

[08:08] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran) nods cordially to Dahlia and pays attention.

[08:10] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Bea have you set up your Office as a Merchant Magistrate yet

[08:10] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin) smiled ever kindly behind her veils, and gave a grateful bow of her head towards Sir Abraham's words, as well as towards Sir Trygg.

[08:10] AnaBelle (anabellemasons): I am currently still trying to find a City that is a fit for me

[08:10] Davor O'Donnell (davoroflaura): "Tal all!"

[08:10] AnaBelle (anabellemasons) many cities not enough RPers

[08:10] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Tal Davor welcome

[08:11] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin) gave a nod of polite to Sir Davor. "Tal to you Sir, it's an honor to have you join us."

[08:12] Davor O'Donnell (davoroflaura): smiles. "Thank you."

[08:12] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): There are the top four now , but the mornings are always an issue.  The north has more morning people due to the places they come from. But its customs are different.

[08:12] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): so if a scribe in the morning its rough

[08:13] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Tal Ar. The best map maker in gor

[08:14] Arealius (arealius.barbosa) smiles, "Thank you sir."

[08:14] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran) nods in respect.

[08:14] Arealius (arealius.barbosa): "The oldest anyway."

[08:14] Bea Lael (lifepath) shakes her head to Abraham. "I have not set up my law firm practice yet, but will do so within the next month

[08:14] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): "Our librarian will be contacting you, Ar."

[08:14] Bea Lael (lifepath) It will be in Besnit

[08:14] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin) looked over and saw the new arrivals enter.

"Tal Sir, it's an honor to have you join us this morning."

As well seeing the 1st Physician join them.

"Tal to you Sir Nuada. Sir Nuada here is the 1st Physician of Ar, he'll be joining us this morning, as he has been interested in the work of us Scribes. It's an honor to have you join us Sir."

[08:15] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran) nods respectfully at Nuada

[08:15] Arealius (arealius.barbosa) nods in appreciation to the Lady Scribe.

[08:15] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): its funny i have been to cities like Rover, its a horrible build has been active for years. People desire contact with other more than a good build

[08:16] Nuada V. Blátǫnn (nuada.soothsayer) bowed his head "That and also I heard of possible news about Kailla. She was my Teacher many years ago."

[08:17] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin) "Ah yes, and Sir Vincent as well, a Taurentian of Ar, thank you for joining as well Sir."

Then took glance over to the Lady Anabelle.

"Lady AnaBelle, you are always more than welcome to have a stay about our Inn. Currently as I have taken over our caste, there have been changes to follow, and I am hopes to build us up strong. I am usually about from the rise of the lar-torvis to dawn of the moons. We also have our Legal Scribes here whom are about throughout most of the day. You are more than welcome to stay a bit and have a feel for the city and caste here."

[08:19] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Two things , i want to look at something kar said to me this week, and two I brough the letter Kailla made about the history of her group, and look at what they did well as a group and what did not work so well. She was there at the beginning and it has become a force in Gor. Now we do not have all the cool rp they have as far as operations ect but we can look at how they opperated and their viewpoint

[08:19] Vincent Hawke walks into the room, moving close to his friend. With recent events he figures it's best to be where large groups of people are, in case he would be needed. he nods to Dahlia "Tal Lady, just thought I'd keep an eye on things."

[08:19] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): But does anyone have other items before i start?

[08:21] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Ok i want to look at where we were a couple of year ago and PCOG when it began

[08:21] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): PCOG has gone through several phases. With less then 10 in the group we set out to determine what we wanted it to be. In those days there was no schools, no teaching, no mentoring, no sharing of information. Knowledge was very territorial. "I learned you can too." No one was helping new people nor creating rp. There were no exams, no forms, no help. Anyone could put on the tag and call themselves physicians. We had no apprentices.

[08:22] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): We were not that bad but there were three scribe groups and none posted, not offered training.

[08:22] Armand Wayfarer nods, remembering how it was years ago and stories told by his Physician friends.

[08:23] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Most we full of people who long ago left gor

[08:23] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): nyone could put on the tag and call themselves physicians. We had no apprentices.

[08:23] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): That i can say we have the issue with

[08:24] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Skylar and my mom offered most of the teaching once a year

[08:24] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): the Gor campus kept saying there were not teachers available

[08:24] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): so they offered nothing for scribes

[08:25] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): That is why this group was started with five people

[08:25] Armand Wayfarer looks to Abraham, "I did finish my courses at the Gorean Campus before it finally pulled the Scribe classes.  I think that was because Janette left."

[08:26] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Firefly came to me in Dec and asked if I could start a group for scribes, i hesitated due to not being sure if it would work

[08:27] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): But in Jan we began holding meeting. yes when Jannette went to dust, it left two souces of teaching , Skylar and Victoria

[08:28] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin) "I miss Victoria dearly, she is no longer around as much either, usually just for the summits."

[08:28] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): She is my mom, she is going through things in rl

[08:29] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin) "Yes you've shared this with me, please send my kindest regards to her."

[08:29] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): So not on also she told me she is going to come back , but not as Victoria, she ask me to keep teaching but she got attacked too much

[08:30] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): We discovered with SC0G* there was an interest

[08:30] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): It grew slowly, but the summits have been a main source of new members

[08:30] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin) furrowed her brows at Victoria being attacked, curious in what context, but would make note to ask him later.

[08:31] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): At Enkara this year we jumped 40 new members

[08:31] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): But we offered something, teaching

[08:32] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): and scribe in remote places got to meeting other scribes

[08:32] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): So PCOG began to flourish when I brought some of it to SL. But in the early organization some things were done wrong and we had a council of 12 Elders, which turned out to be a nightmare. Some were very arrogant and opinionated. They would march into sims telling sim owners how they had to organize the caste.

[08:32] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): This was suggest last year by several

[08:33] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): And a trap for us

[08:33] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Sims were ready to ban us from their sims so all the elders were removed.

[08:33] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Comments

[08:35] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): So how we work with cites has to be done carefully

[08:35] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): as Prog discovered

[08:35] Armand Wayfarer raises his hand

[08:35] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): yes Armand

[08:36] Armand Wayfarer looks to Abraham as he says to the colleagues, "If you wish a place to teach, it was Kit Boggan's final wish to create an Academy in Lara.  It is built now, but I've heard nothing yet about how it will be run.  I know they will look for educators."

[08:37] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Kit is gone , did not realize that

[08:38] Armand Wayfarer nods his head sadly, "He passed a bit over two hands ago."

[08:38] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): brb

[08:38] Nuada V. Blátǫnn (nuada.soothsayer): ((I'm sorry, I need to pop away, I'll try to make the evening edition))

[08:38] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin): Tyt

[08:38] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin): ((No worries, see you then.))

[08:39] Armand Wayfarer: (( Dated 18 Oct 2025:  It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Matthew, the typist behind Kit, took his last earthly breath tonight around 8:28 SLT.  He coded around 10;05 our time and they were able to bring him back but he was not able to survive.

I do not have any words right now other than we are all in mourning but I commit to you all to carry on Kit's vision of Lara.

Please remember his mom and his 2 step sisters during this time.

Magnus L Bane ))

[08:40] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin): ((Oh this is so sad to hear, so many times a message like this has come across in Gor in the past two years is absolute heartbreaking. May he truly rest in peace.))

[08:40] Armand Wayfarer: (( We're still reeling but getting on with things ))

[08:40] Vincent Hawke: ((Gotta head out too sorry!))

[08:40] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): take care Vincent

[08:40] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): So in the spirit of the books we set up a mentoring program and looked at ways for people to earn there way into the caste.

[08:41] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): we have discussed that

[08:41] Armand Wayfarer nods his head in agreement to Abraham.

[08:41] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Another thing was to create a way to verify a persons Gorean Knowledge and understanding of the book. That was when I created the Gorean Knowledge Physicians Test. It was not to be used so much as a grading tool but an incentive to read and learn about the physicians in the books. I always saw it as a treasure hunt for the stories through searching for the answers in search engines and the quotes that could be found on physicians.

[08:42] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): today i am not sure if people care about understanding of the book

[08:43] Armand Wayfarer: "As a basis for role play , I think it's essential, whether you're by the book or Gorean evolved."

[08:43] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): I agree

[08:43] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): That is why i give a lot of the context from the books when teaching

[08:44] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): The next thing that I started was the skills set. It was designed to help show people's rp and to record their rp's so they had something to share with their sims on their level of experience.

[08:44] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): I have been testing more when i teach, but not the justification

[08:45] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): The Justification questions looked like trival presuit

[08:45] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): I am lookilng at application that we will use in our work

[08:46] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): The questions like how gorians write never really showed a lot

[08:46] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Now the order contracts are normally signed by Ambassadores does

[08:47] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): We were attacked in forums and often untruths were said as to what we were doing or stood for. The biggest one was we were never to be an over all entity over all physicians. We were there to assist. We however did become the one that many sims requested their physicians to follow.

[08:47] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): and we have been accused or will be of this

[08:48] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Our purpose will be attaced

[08:51] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Any way before i lose time, I want to turn to what kar talked about this week to me. But i wanted first to look at PROG since we are gong through some of the same quesitons and growth pains

[08:51] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Kar can you explain what you said bout Enkara to me and our group

[08:56] ꝀȺɌ (karisima.stein): I spoke recently with Abraham regarding the Fair. At this time, it’s unclear whether the original sim is still available. If someone is able to reach out to Flower to confirm, that would be greatly appreciated.

Should the sim no longer be accessible—and if Flower is unable to continue hosting the Fair—perhaps we, as a community, can rise to the occasion and carry it forward. It won’t be easy. It will require commitment, coordination, and care. But the Fair is a cherished tradition, and all of Gor looks forward to it each year.

[08:56] ꝀȺɌ (karisima.stein): I believe her name is flower.  I could be wrong with the name.  I suck at remembering names.

[08:58] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin): Oh yes, Feather, she generally facilitates the fair. I believe my Companion is acquainted with her, I shall ask him to do so. I can absolutely state, that he and I would be able to be heavy contributers monetarily if that is needed for this.

[08:59] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Other comments, I do know Feather begain fundraising in Jan , with a jail event where people were locked up for money

[08:59] ꝀȺɌ (karisima.stein): Thank you, Lady Dahlia.  I was told recently that the fair is up in the air  as in no one knows if it will happen in 2026.

[09:00] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): I asked the Ubara of Turmus, which co-sponsored the event, and she said that the group who sponsored it last year had not met yet. She did assure me that they were planning to meet soon.

[09:00] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): that is good news

[09:00] ꝀȺɌ (karisima.stein): Very good news.

[09:01] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): We will see how it goes.

[09:02] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin): Oh that will be most tragic if it does not take place. Yes I know Lady Selia and her city took part in it, even as they were going through their own hardship. I shall speak to Marlenus here as well, to see what can come of them to aid in this, and any other colleagues that come to mind that can be of any help at all. But Hector and I can definitely contribute with sim rentals.

[09:02] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): I was attacked at an event in chat saying that i took over enkara last year. Oddly, i did not talk to the organizers, it was others who asked for slots for speakers

[09:02] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): But i hope we can be a part again this year

[09:03] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin): The Scribe summit was an outright success at the Enkara, many enjoyed it, if you were attacked it was due to others feeling inadequate in their own participation in the same manner. I hope you continue to lead it as you did.

[09:03] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): You lead, i just help coordinate

[09:04] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Without your contributions it would have not been anything

[09:04] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): ok lets look at this in Jan

[09:04] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin): It's an effort from us all yes, we are a selfless caste who truly appreciates knowledge and each other, we support each other, it's tell tale from even these meetings we hold. What other's have to say of that is no concern of ours.

[09:05] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): Yeah, Abraham. Consider the source

[09:05] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): It was in front of a lot of key city owners

[09:05] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): So i was not happy

[09:05] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): But , life happens

[09:05] Armand Wayfarer: "I gave you giving a bosk dropping about other people's opinions of me long ago."

[09:06] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): grins

[09:06] Armand Wayfarer: you=up^

[09:06] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): We are done unless you have other items

[09:06] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin): Please reach out to us when this happens to you, you should never stand alone to feel this way, and if those city owners are worth their own merit they as well wouldn't take the words of fools.

[09:06] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): They should have shut her down

[09:07] ꝀȺɌ (karisima.stein): Everyone holds an opinion—some offer insight, others cast venom.

Let it pass. Stay your course. Keep moving forward.

[09:07] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): thank you all for coming

[09:07] Armand Wayfarer: "Thank you, Abraham, for organizing these meetings."

[09:07] Davor O'Donnell (davoroflaura): "Yes, thank you for all your work."

[09:08] Armand Wayfarer grins, "and thank you Lady Dahlia for taking notes."

[09:08] Armand Wayfarer: "At least you know your colleagues appreciate your efforts"

[09:08] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin) "It was an honor having you all here. You are most welcome Sir Armand, these should be going out in just a moment per Sir Abraham in the groups."

A few thoughts on direction for SCoG

A few thoughts on direction for SCoG

Fri, Oct 17 2025 6:55:33 AM SLT

We will discuss this next meeting . Right before Kaiila Mahoney passed she sent this out. I think there are lesson for us as a scribe group so as not to make the same mistakes . Attached.

==========================================

Kaiila and PCOG

Dear friends,

I have found a need to share the below. I want to also share the embedded notecard from Marcus of Ar dated in 2003. I read it recently and it inspired me to share the below thoughts and how I remember what Gor was suppose to be.

A LETTER TO THE LOST by MARCUS OF AR 2003 (below)

PCOG was formed in 2004. I was on a different avatar. In 2006 when Kaiila came in I was given the group by Ramus Overlord. He was leaving Gor as it was not for him but he wanted me to carry on the ideals initially set up.

Recently I took several months off to reevaluate and refocus on my own involvement. However, I did not totally leave. I just needed a break from Kaiila. So I have been here watching and observing.

PCOG has gone through several phases.

I had been working outside of SL on my website Healers Hall and in other Gor Chat venues. We had in those days guilds. There was one in MSN, AOL, IRC, Excite, Halsoft and voodoo just to name a few places goreans were role playing. The website was growing and people were thirsty for knowledge of Gor for the physicians caste.

So PCOG began to flourish when I brought some of it to SL. But in the early organization some things were done wrong and we had a council of 12 Elders, which turned out to be a nightmare. Some were very arrogant and opinionated. They would march into sims telling sim owners how they had to organize the caste. Still we had no apprentices. Sims were ready to ban us from their sims so all the elders were removed. So in the spirit of the books we set up a mentoring program and looked at ways for people to earn there way into the caste.

In those days we had a Gorean Council and sim owners were all members deciding on how to rp together. Some of the early things we did was look at meters, sim rules and common laws. There was a caste elder from the five different castes. I had been asked to sit on the council for the Physicians Caste. I was asked to find a way to identify role play for physicians and how to know if people had read the books and understood goeran physician from the books.

Some things that we did for example was come up with the first slave exam form. We thought it a fun rp to include for physicians. The items we sat up were set up mostly as a guide on what you could look for. It was not meant to be an absolute and a must in all situations. We felt the story should dictate the rp with flexibility and new ways to look at our roles in the cities.

Another thing was to create a way to verify a persons Gorean Knowledge and understanding of the book. That was when I created the Gorean Knowledge Physicians Test. It was not to be used so much as a grading tool but an incentive to read and learn about the physicians in the books. I always saw it as a treasure hunt for the stories through searching for the answers in search engines and the quotes that could be found on physicians.

The next thing that I started was the skills set. It was designed to help show people's rp and to record their rp's so they had something to share with their sims on their level of experience.

I never believed in certificates and I have always felt its up to the sims to decide who they want to rp as physician on their sims. PCOG grew and at one time we had well over 600 members.  We were hacked twice emptying the groups I struggled with who to give what rights. I wanted to be fair.

We were attacked in forums and often untruths were said as to what we were doing or stood for. The biggest one was we were never to be an over all entity over all physicians. We were there to assist. We however did become the one that many sims requested their physicians to follow. There were other groups and schools, universities, campuses and the like but for some reason PCOG became the leading one for physicians.

I even remember seeing certificates being sold with my signature which made me laugh. Over the years there have been many schools and I think i have put up my reactionary course where people could go and rp the stationary sceneries with their mentors on at least 5 different sims.

The entire focus was for pcog to work to help others to improve and learn with encouragement with someone to help them. It was never meant to be a academic entity with requirements and demands on people. So what happened?

It was meant to step aside and give others a chance to lead and learn and rp.. Thing however started to become really rigidly to the right that now I am not sure I recognize it anymore.  Exams became mandatory with signatures and deadlines. Paperwork ruled and rp stopped became story telling but more of a chore. We lost our ability to be flexible, imaginative, helpful. We turned away from rp to do that needed exam that no one like the physician nor the slave.  Apprentices where not allowed to heal, when they should be the ones doing the most healing. HOC"s were created and IHOC"s. Titles and Authority became paramount and some became entrenched in those roles leaving no room for growth.

Less and less gorean medicine was being taught and more and more medicine from real life and todays hospitals and nursing programs. People started acting like real life authorities. So let's review what is really Gorean that may surprise all of you. I say this because the beauty of gor healing has been so corrupted and lost in our self arrogance and ignorance.

Interesting Gorean Realities.

1- There were no infirmaries, there was the house of XXXX physician or the physicians cylinder.

2-Medicine was almost always mentioned in terms of colors, fluids, powders, salves etc. and had a magical nature about them.

3-Suturing was not done but once by Tarl from earth. Cuts were healed by the magical salve of Treve Vika had in the priest king nests. Lots have argued that it would be rare and as a result it has been written out of our rp. Yet it is used in several places in the books. Originally we wanted to limits its use so we could actually rp it as marvelous and not just slap it on and say end of the rp. What happened we stopped telling the story.

4-Modern medicine was spoken about yet we are still healing medieval medicine in rp.

5- Herbs are used that did not grow on Gor yet that which is is ignored. People stopped learning about the plants and flora of gor and reverted back to what they knew and now with the extensive requirements mandated on the caste there are a lot more herbalist role playing that ever was and few have tried to learn the plants of gor.

6-Now this is the biggest thing that is not role played. Physicians did not work for cities. They were almost all private physicians and worked directly from their homes and for individuals.

7-Gorean Council had a rotating physician to advise on medical issues. It was not someone that would be a boss to other physicians.

8-Physicians made house calls. Think of them like the old family doctor.

9-Caste was more like your family than your family. Caste was set up to accept one another with charity, help and mentoring. You took care of your caste family.

10-Mentoring and training was one on one and could last into years. There were no set times..

So that brings me to my observations of late. PCOG was meant to help not hinder, We worked with each other oocly to work with one another and not tear each other a part. I fought to keep a lot of the arrogance out and yet I probably was a big offender as well. I am not perfect but after over 20 years I really believed that we could do better, be better, share, enhance, excite, encourage, enjoy a story and not push aside others. I took a break to maybe find a better me. I came back because I missed the dream, the role play and the love I have for the story of wearing green and loving it, wearing it with pride to bring people joy. Is that Gor gone? If not where can we find it? And can we do it together?

A LETTER TO THE LOST by MARCUS OF AR 2003

A Letter to the Lost

Marcus of Ar

A LETTER TO THE LOST

by Marcus of Ar

I sat online, reading the latest list of "Gorean" channels which had recently sprung up, surprised and baffled by some of their topic lines, and chuckling to myself. Then I received a message from a slave whom I had known since I first logged onto IRC, one who had rivaled me in my knowledge of, and love of, all things Gorean. The very girl who had sent me scrambling after the Gor books to add to my knowledge of that wonderful fictional place.

She seemed to be upset, and angry, and very, very weary... she thanked me for "taking the time to listen to the words of a lost girl," for a lost girl she was. And she asked me a simple, honest question, and I felt my heart break as I sensed the depth of sadness in her words:

"Master Marcus... Where is Gor?" she asked.

For that nameless girl, and for all the other lost ones like her, I shall answer.

Where is Gor?

Is it to be found online, amidst the chat rooms, corkboards and message centers of the internet? Is it contained within a particular IRC channel, or chat service, or role-playing room? Is it to be found on a website, are even upon all websites?

No, it cannot be found there. Not in any online venue, nor in every online venue, nor in all of the online venues put together. Not upon the entire internet, with its thousands upon thousands of server computers, with its millions of gigabytes of retrievable data. And if one were to illegally scan in every page of every book which John Norman ever wrote, and place them upon every server computer attached to the internet... Gor would still not be there.

Where is Gor?

Is it to be found within the celluloid frames of the movies which were created to tell its story? No, not there. The films which were created to tell the story of Gor were sad and laughable things, full of inconsistencies and devoid of the trappings and exuberance which fill the Gor books to bursting. The two films which were created, which supposedly dealt with the subject of Gor but which were actually just another attempt by filmmakers to cash in on the success of a rather popular series of science-fiction/fantasy books, were empty. They depicted the activities of people in some other place than Gor. They were Xena, minus the tongue-in-cheek humor of that modern and highly successful syndicated program... they were BeastMaster and Deathstalker, but lacked even the dubious production values of those films, and the others which emulated them during the 1980's. Don't look for Gor between the credits of either of the two supposed "Gor" films... because you won't find it there.

Where is Gor?

Is Gor to be discovered by memorizing passages of prose from the series of books which gave form to the Counter-Earth? Can it be squeezed and gleaned from websites which discuss the particulars of Gorean concepts, lifestyles and philosophy? Can it be unmasked and revealed through logging into a chat channel on the internet and typing in the right combination of phrases at the correct times, and in the correct order?

Never. Because Gor is bigger than all of that. Because Gor, though replete with whips and chains and swords and collars, though filled with war and combat and the struggles of Men and their women, is not about any of that. It is about something else.

Gor is based upon love. Believe it or not.

That is the source of its greatness, and its strength. Gor is based upon the love which people can experience for their world, for their companions, and for their humanity. It is built upon the concept that men and women can love the truth, and that they can pursue that truth to its fullest extent. Those who know Gor, know that in it are contained all expressions of the love for life, the love of beauty, the love of strength, the love of honor, even the love which a group of men can feel toward a simple stone.

Those who cannot understand that Gor can be loved, and lived, will never be able to understand its strength, its purity, and its majesty. The planet Gor does not, and cannot, exist. But there are still those brave men and women who close their eyes and dream about it. In their imaginations they see the endless vistas of the green sa-tarna fields which dot that world, they behold the trackless crests of the mighty Voltai mountains, they smell the dust of the Plains of Turia and they feel the sweet clean air of another world upon their skin.

To such people, the Counter-Earth, though not a real place, is a true place. It is the stuff of myth. It is the Isle of Avalon; it is the Hidden Land under the Hollow Hills. It is the Faery Homeland of the Sidhe. It exists just beyond the borders of our waking world, ever ready to embrace those who dare to cross its boundaries and seek it, those who insist upon loving it for its own sake.

So, when you glance around you and feel cheated by the limitations of the internet and IRC, when you are appalled at the mess which has been made online and off by those who seek to emulate, but who can never understand, Gor, those who seem unable to simply love it for its own sake, never forget that Gor and the internet are not the same thing. At such times, do not despair; simply pick up one of those Gor books and close yourself up in a quiet room, and begin to read. Let your imagination take flight to another place, a better place, a place of wonders and truth and sacrifice and the honest sweat and labor of men and women who are working together to create an Eden upon the other side of the sun. Read, and as you read, imagine that mankind can still be as innocent and as savage as it would be there, should Gor exist. Close your eyes and imagine that there could be Goreans, and that you might find your place among them.

Perhaps the power of Gor is that we cannot attain it, except through our dreams. We can strive to come closer to it, to understand it a bit better, and to immerse ourselves in the ebb and tide of Gorean interaction as it exists upon our world... but we cannot ever get there. It remains just beyond our reach, tantalizing us with glimpses of its honesty and beauty. But we cannot "make" Gor, not here upon Earth. Nor can we live *the* Gorean Lifestyle. There is no single Gorean Lifestyle to be lived. We can simply strive to live *a* Gorean Lifestyle, and attempt to find our own niche of Gorean simplicity, honor, and the love of life, here upon our own gray world.

Simply look around you. When the endless bickering and name calling and pontificating becomes too much for you to bear, when it begins to drown out the truth of what Gor is, and how it is, and how we might strive to be worthy of it, turn away and seek it elsewhere. Find the books which teach us of it, and travel beyond the sun to another world. And learn to love Gor, not for what you can make of it, but for its own sake.

That is where Gor is. In the hearts and souls of those who truly love it, and who have come to understand it and appreciate it for its own sake, not because it has impregnated the particular online medium which they typically frequent. One cannot find Gor in an IRC channel, or upon a website; one must seek it elsewhere, somewhere within oneself. The books are there to show you the way. They are the magic gateway you seek, which will reveal all of the triumph and despair and wonder of another, truer place. Pass through that gateway and know that only there, within those pages, is the genuine article you search for. There are good channels and poor ones, quality websites and foolish ones... but they are all things of Earth. To find Gor one must go beyond them, and look within oneself to discover whether or not one can love the Counter-Earth, for all of its faults and foibles.

To one who can do that, the endless insipidities of the online milieu fade into the background, and assume their correct position of importance, which is less than nothing when compared to the vastness and glory of the Counter Earth.

If you would know Gor, submerge yourself and give yourself over to that fictional place. Imagine yourself among the denizens of that other world, and discover whether or not you can love it for its own sake, minus all of the ridiculous trappings of the internet and IRC. The measure of how "Gorean" you are comes not from how well you can type words to a screen, nor how well established is your channel or how many flames you can type to castigate others. The true battle must be fought within. Are you Gorean? Do you really wish to be?

Could you be?

If you would be Gorean, learn to love Gor. If you would live as a Gorean, learn to live with the same joy and earnest simplicity, and strength of heart, shared by the Goreans described in those books.

The millions of bytes of digital data being tossed around the bandwidth highways mean nothing to the Goreans, and should mean nothing to those who would emulate the Goreans. All of the retrievable memory on every computer in the world mean nothing when compared to the simplest stone in a summer garden. Pick up that stone and hold it, and know it to be real. Now pick up a handful of words, and weigh the two for yourself.

Gor is an idea, an ideal, a philosophical viewpoint; but it is also a real and discernable force in the lives of those who have embraced it, and love it. We are not measured for what we say; we are measured by who we are. The intricacies of the internet have little to do with it.

When next you wish to scream and rage at the indignities being heaped upon Gor upon the internet, simply recall that the internet is not connected to Gor. It cannot touch, or effect, anything Gorean. Those who fail to understand what Gor is all about, and who fail to respect and appreciate what Gor signifies, are doomed to eternal disappointment. They choose their fate by refusing to seek Gor for what it is, to understand and commune with its spirit and philosophy. They would define it, and simplify it, and weaken it, to make the task of understanding it easier for themselves...when all the while, all they have to do is simply find and read the Gor books and learn to love Gor. And if they cannot do that, then they would be better served by seeking some other goal, one within their abilities and easier for them to grasp.

When I am assailed by those who insist upon tearing out their hair in great handfuls at some recent rash of online idiocy, I simply have to laugh. I cannot help myself. I see people screaming that the ship is sinking, when the reason they boarded that ship in the first place was to seek the ocean. And while the ship may sink, the ocean remains, unchanged. One has only to stroll down the beach to the water's edge to find it; one has only to swim in it to understand it, and to learn that perhaps one need not fear it at all.

Gor is there. It will always be there, for those who wish to seek it. And to do so, they need only purchase a book and visit it. The often rampant silliness of IRC, and the various channels of half-baked pseudo Goreans, will pass away in time, perhaps to be

replaced by another group of would-be Goreans who seem to think that Gor exists within the tiny data bits which pass between computers.

It doesn't matter, though. Mixed in among such people, there will always be those who know and understand that Gor is not a thing of computers and typed commands. And while we can communicate with one another in a thousand different ways, it is those who love Gor who will determine how best that can be accomplished. The internet can be made to serve Gor; but Gor does not exist to serve the internet. It is far, far bigger than that.

Love Gor. Do not attempt to change it. Do not attempt to explain it away. Do not attempt to capture it and own it for yourself, because that is foolish vanity. Simply love it. And treasure those books, so that if you ever wish to experience Gor in its truest form, you can do so simply by diving in and taking a swim in it. And washing yourself clean of the lies and poisons, and the computer driven agendas, of Earth and its misguided inhabitants.

You may encounter me there, splashing around and enjoying myself immensely. If you do, and you ever feel yourself slipping beneath the waves for the third time, simply extend your hand, and it will be taken by myself, and by others who love Gor for its own sake, who will gladly keep you afloat as you come to know and understand the power of the sea in which we all swim... the sea of living, and the love of beauty, and simplicity, and truth.

You will have found Gor.

I wish you well.

And I, and those like me, shall continue to do all we can to find the lost ones, and bring them home.

II. Discussion Topics and Actions

  1. SCoG Progress and Summit Review:

    • Growth: Abraham announced SCoG membership has increased to 115 (a 45-person increase since En'Kara), calling attendees the "backbone" of the group.

    • Summit Success: The recent Scribe Summit was deemed successful, though the debate category had "glitches" (like the wrong side being prepped by a speaker).

    • Lesson Learned: Trygg noted that the debate was still valuable, reinforcing the principle that one must argue the side assigned, regardless of personal opinion. Abraham agreed that future preparation would need to include confirming understanding of debate sides.

  2. Caste Reports & Individual Achievements (The "What have you done to further the caste?" segment):

    • Teletus (Abraham): Voted in as HOC, he's focused on a hiring spree for all scribe sub-castes and organizing paperwork. He remains the interim Ambassador.

    • Ar (Dahlia): Dahlia Black Clegane was confirmed as the new HOC of Ar's Scribes, succeeding the former HoC (who Abraham clarified was no longer in the post).

    • Var-Kor (Gallius/Aurora): Reported a solid and organized caste despite having members doubling their duties.

    • Two Scimitars (Trygg): Reported assisting the Merchants Association with trade agreements. Noted their Founders Day feast was rescheduled due to a sandstorm and reported an increase in crime (merchants spirited away).

    • Lara (Armand): Reported efforts to restore legitimacy to the Magistrate post by adhering to impartial law, noting their HoC is ill.

    • Besnit (Bea Lael): Announced plans to establish her Merchant Law Firm on the top floor of her business.

  3. Future Meetings and En'Kara Planning:

    • Next Meeting Date/Location: SCoG will take a two-week hiatus and meet on Wednesday, November 5th, at 8 AM & 5 PM SLT at Imperial Ar. (Dahlia offered the Ar Scribe Tower conference table).

    • En'Kara Fair (Contingency): The coordination for the March En'Kara Fair is uncertain due to the previous organizer (Feather) being ill. Trygg proposed investigating future coordination and reiterated the need to plan a Scribe event even if it's not part of the main fair.

  4. Resource Donation (Arealius's Gift):

    • Gift: Arealius Barbosa announced he is making his vast collection of maps (dating back to 2010) and historical fictional writings (public domain) available to all Scribe libraries and towers on request.

    • Action: Trygg agreed to connect him with the librarian to facilitate the transfer.

  5. Upcoming Debate (Selinar):

    • The debate topic: "The advancement of civilisation owes more to the enterprise of Merchants than to the scholarship of Scribes." will be held in Selnar on Friday at 6 PM.

We reside at Port Olni, but you will find us anywhere and everywhere."

[17:15:05] Arealius (arealius.barbosa): "Yes sir!"

[17:15:13] Arealius (arealius.barbosa): "I am still alive."

[17:15:18] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): "I remember it well."

[17:15:45] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): Lady Sorana, would you like to say something?"

[17:16:08] Ana Barbosa (sorana): Thank you.

[17:16:25] Arealius (arealius.barbosa): "May I add one thing before you move on sir?"

[17:16:33] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): "Yes of course."

[17:17:19] Arealius (arealius.barbosa): "All my materials are public domain. Since they are technically fan fiction both the texts and images are public."

[17:17:29] Arealius (arealius.barbosa): Feel free to use them as you will.

[17:17:52] Catherine Aurora Gallius (babygirlsherri): That you Sir Arealius

[17:17:58] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): And I suspect we will. Thank you for your generosity, Arealius."

[17:18:30] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Tal Jake

[17:18:50] Jake Lane (slade.jestyr): Tal

[17:19:45] Catherine Aurora Gallius (babygirlsherri): My story will be a short one Sirs, and Ladies. First let me say I am so glad to be here. I am Catherine of Var-Kor, but my friends call me Aurora. My city is growing daily. We have Scribes that are doubling their duties until more Scribes settle in.

[17:20:42] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran) nods. "Yes, I read some dispatches about Var-Kor. I will be eager to visit. And to the lady to Aurora's left?"

[17:20:55] Caroline Gallius (carolinemonclaire): Hello, I am Caroline Gallius, ambassador of Var-Kor. I am still very new to the scribe caste and still learning. In Var-Kor our caste seems to solid, we are still growing and everyone pitches in so we may continue to stay organized.

[17:21:22] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): "Ah, very well. Two Scribes of Var-Kor. You are welcome."

[17:21:48] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran) looks up to Darius "Sir, would you be willing to address the meeting?"

[17:21:56] Darius Starr (dark.starr): I am Darius, once known as Dark. Who I was is in the past, that not many recall those days now, is naught but memories and dust. I am now but a scholar retired to my estate representing no Home Stone but my own. One does not stop being of a Home Stone, Gorean or a Scribe, regardless.

[17:22:31] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): "Yes, and we are happy to have an emeritus scribe in our midst, Sir."

[17:22:36] Darius Starr (dark.starr): Shh

[17:22:44] Catherine Aurora Gallius (babygirlsherri): smiles

[17:22:50] Darius Starr (dark.starr): It is time for new voices and new words

[17:23:24] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): "Moving on," he chuckles, but then nods to AnaBelle. "Lady, will you introduce yourself to us and tell us of your city?"

[17:25:15] AnaBelle (anabellemasons): I have been in Gor off and on. Currently I am currently traveling from city to city to find a home. I am happy to be here and hope to make new friends

[17:26:18] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): "Marvelous. Perhaps you will find a home with one of the members of Scribes Caste of Gor. We represent a wide range, though not all of Gor."

[17:26:54] Catherine Aurora Gallius (babygirlsherri): VAr-Kor is beautiful Lady AnaBelle

[17:27:03] Catherine Aurora Gallius (babygirlsherri): smiles

[17:27:22] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran) turns to Davor . "Sir, would you like to introduce yourself?"

[17:29:12] Davor O'Donnell (davoroflaura): smiels. "Tal Sirs and Ladies, my name is Davor, I am originally from Laura but lived for a while in the island of Gortuga, now I travel the lands to educate myself."

[17:30:04] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran) smiles "I remember seeing you at the summit. I hope it was in formative. Thank you Davor. And finally, Sir, will you introduce yourself and tell us about your city?"

[17:30:17] Darius Starr (dark.starr): GorTuga. Home Stone Turtle. I like it.

[17:32:17] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran) smiles over at Jake. and nods "Tal Dahlia."

[17:33:24] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin) dipped her chin into a gracious nod of polite to the room

"Tal to you all.~ Greetings to you dear Sir Trygg."

[17:33:55] Jake Lane (slade.jestyr): I'm a courier from the City of Ar. I deliver messages around and to other cities as well as parcels.

[17:34:33] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): "Ah, a fine job, Jake. I believe I am acquainted with your Head Scribe."

[17:35:01] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): not any more

[17:35:10] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Dahilia is now hoc

[17:35:21] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): of Ar's scribes

[17:35:48] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): "Oh? Ah, I see. Well, congratulations to you Dahlia. So what I said is still true. As I am also acquainted with Dahlia."

[17:35:53] Catherine Aurora Gallius (babygirlsherri): claps her hands "Congratulations Dahilia!"

[17:36:29] SaraBrighton: I am here

[17:36:50] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): Finally, I am Trygg Tyran, of the Oasis of Two Scimitars where I hold the title of Ambassador. We are a small city, but our caste is mighty."

[17:37:02] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): I have been mostly working in my capacity of Ambassador to assist the merchants in development of trade agreements with other cities, and with structural improvements to the Gorean Merchants Association. Our Head Scribe Astary Pendragon meets quarterly with the caste, and that meeting is set for some weeks ahead

[17:37:16] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): A sandstorm blew through the oasis a couple of days ago, forcing us to postpone our city holiday Founders Day, a celebration, ironically it would seem now, of the reopening of Two Scimitars when it was destroyed by the great sandstorm of 10,165. That feast has been rescheduled.

[17:37:40] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): We have been experiencing an increase in crime, with some of our merchants, in particular, being spirited away by suspects unproven. Our investigator, who is a warrior, not a scribe, is working with the Praetor on the cases.

[17:37:53] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): We have firmly established city laws, both criminal and civil, which the Scribe Caste enforces with the cooperation of the warriors.

[17:37:56] Dahlia Black Clegane (voxsin) canted her head to acknowledge the ever the ever kind applaud.

[17:38:07] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): "Have I neglected to call on anyone?"

    • Abraham Jacobson: Announced he was voted in as HoC for Teletus and is on a hiring spree. He secured Imperial Ar as the location for the next monthly meeting.

    • Armand Wayfarer (Lara): Reported efforts to bring legitimacy to the Magistrate post in Lara, ensuring law is "impartial and equal," without emotion. Noted that their HoC is ill, but new lower scribes have joined.

    • Saku Takahashi: Had nothing to report.

    • Kati Evans (Teletus): Abraham praised her "amazing job" assisting the city with establishing the Ubara's advisor role and announced he asked her to be the AHOC (Assistant Head of Caste), noting her dedication with 13 hours/day working for the city.  NOTE: The role of Ubara's Council was eliminated when the Ubara stepped down as part of the ruling body of Teletus and James became Regent.

    • Trygg Tyran (Two Scimitars): Reported on assisting merchants with trade agreements and structural improvements for the Gorean Merchants Association. Mentioned a recent sandstorm delayed their Founders Day feast, now rescheduled. Noted an increase in crime (merchants spirited away) being investigated by a Warrior. Offered to send a dispatch regarding their city laws and future trade agreement possibilities with Teletus.

    • Bea Lael (Besnit): Announced plans to establish her merchant law firm in Besnit before the end of next month. She is looking for a merchant magistrate.

    • Tyan Cabot: Reported assisting in the collection of accurate city records and promoting documentation, mentioning 10 forms received.

  2. Scribe Codes and Debates:

    • Caste Codes: The modified Scribe Caste Codes (or Ethics) Rev 2 were finalized based on summit suggestions and distributed by Shannondoa during the meeting.

    • Merchant Magistrate Debate: A debate hosted by Cor in Selnar on Friday at 6 PM was announced. The topic is: "The advancement of civilisation owes more to the enterprise of Merchants than to the scholarship of Scribes." Abraham expressed hope to attend and lament that Cor does not collaborate with SCoG.

  3. Future Planning (En'Kara & Meetings):

    • En'Kara Fair: The status of En'Kara sponsorship is "up in the air" due to the coordinator (Feather) being sick. Trygg volunteered to ask Violet (and possibly Turmus, a co-sponsor last year) about sponsoring the sim/location. Abraham suggested the SCoG might need to organize its own event if no external sponsor is found.

    • New Recruits: Abraham announced that by the end of next month, three more Ambassadors and three more Magistrates would graduate from training.

    • Next Meeting: The next meeting is confirmed for November 5th at Imperial Ar. There will be no meeting on the last Wednesday of October due to a major holiday.

III. Action Items & To Dos

  • Abraham Jacobson:

    • Ensure Shannondoa distributes the final Caste Codes/Ethics document.

[08:28] Abraham Jacobson (abrahamjacobs2): Remind me to come to the feast Trygg and our city wants to do a trade agreement with yours when you can

[08:28] Trygg Tyran (tryggtyran): We have firmly established city laws, both criminal and civil, which the Scribe Caste enforces with the cooperation of the warriors, but we are an isolated oasis and somewhat lawless, subject to raids by various bandit groups.
